Wild Sculptures, to the CORE!

Such a large part of what we do here at Monster City involves sculptures and sculpting. We've made pieces from foam, fiberglass, concrete, wood, urethane, acrylic, epoxy, lexan... the list goes on. Most of the character sculpts we produce either start in clay or in the computer. Of those two, the computer & technology usually trumps the old "hands on" method. It's not that we don't love hand sculpting, we certainly do, but in a production shop, speed is usually king. However, sometimes there is a need for the traditional. When someone is needed to push an pull a block of the ole plastilina, our wheelhouse couldn't have a more prolific captain.

Bryan Ellis is our lead practical sculptor here at MCS. When we need anything shaped from clay or foam we go to him & his crew. He graduated from the famous Joe Kubert School of Cartooning & Graphic Arts in New Jersey in 1991. He's worked in digital and physical models and game development for everyone from Sierra Online to Blizzard and Activision.

His eye for detail is spot on and some of the craziest ideas come from his pencil and pallet knife.

Take a look at a few of Bryans clay and pencil creations.
