LIVING COAST AQUARIUM: SCULPTURE/DISPLAY

San Diego, California

Completed: March 2016

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

MCS received design renderings from Jeff Katz Architecture firm in San Diego, CA in order to produce a large green sea turtle and nest complete with eggs and hatchlings for the remodel of the Living Coast Aquariums sea turtle exhibit.  MCS artists worked with the architect to produce Z-Brush renderings of the large focal turtle as well as the small hatchlings.

PROJECT SCOPE:

MCS produced a large 6’ long, realistic green sea turtle which was constructed with an interior steel armature, clad with hand-carved EPS foam and coated with custom formulated polyurea.  The eggs and hatchlings were molded and cast to create multiples and then added to a carved foam and polyurea nest.  All pieces received custom scenic paint treatments.
