FRESNO FAIR: PLAY STRUCTURE/DISPLAY

Fresno, California

Completed: September 2008-2010

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

The client requested a giant, interactive "tree house" style play structure to be built in two phases. The piece consists of two concrete trees and wooden tree houses, connected by a 50 ft long prefabricated pedestrian bridge.

PROJECT SCOPE:

This project was created from the ground up by Monster City Studios personnel. All of the design and fabrication, except for the prefabricated bridge frame, was done by the Monster City crew. The tree sub-structures were built using engineered steel skeletons, then clad with foam and wood to create the base shapes. They were then coated with high-strength concrete and the bark was sculpted into the surface. The houses were built from new and reclaimed wood, including a 90 year old Southern Pacific boxcar.
